First blog

Watching the news can be painful sometimes because theirs so much stuff going on around the world that we don't know about, but I recently discovered that African Savanna elephants are now listed as endangered. Seeing that my favorite animal is slowly dying makes me realize that we as humans had one job and that was to protect this earth and the kind creatures on it but sadly we failed. For centuries elephants have been hunted for their tusks, either for trophies or for the art of ivory carving and jewelry making.  Although the tusks of several mammal species including warthog, walrus, hippopotamus, and several other animals are used as ivory, the tusks from African elephants and Asian elephants. Poaching for ivory and loss of habitat as it is converted primarily to agricultural land use are blamed for the sharp declines, which have been occurring since 2008.Elephants provide much more than just aesthetic benefits.

Recent studies show forest elephants also play an important role in fighting climate change.According to wwf.panda.org we can help protect these endangered elephants by purchasing certified sustainable palm oil, retailers, traders and manufacturers can help limit the conversion of Asian elephant habitat into oil palm plantations. Not buying ivory products or donating to WWF.
